Lesson Information : Students may bring questions to the lesson. Otherwise, I will bring a "standards-based" lesson and assessment to see what the student requires. Some homework, or "out of tutoring time" work will be needed to be sure that the student succeeds, such as memorization of multiplication facts or formulas for solving problems. No "drill and kill" will be given. I believe strongly that creative interaction and rigorous problem solving is much more effective than doing lots of problems that the student grows weary doing. However, the student will be asked to explain her/his thinking in order for the student to grown in the ability to problem solve and to understand the actual process of what the particular problem requires. I find that students who learn that the problem is theirs to embrace and to solve, is much more likely to grow in understanding and ability than the one who is simply given many worksheets to solve.
