Information about Shelly
I focus on the development of self with social emotional learning at the core, to parallel high-leverage instruction with high-interest lesson planning. I have seen tremendous success in turning scores around not only for my own classes but also for my ELAR department, especially with Emergent Bilingual students. I believe in developing the whole student/educator who gains self-efficacy and virtuousness.
What is the key to academic growth and achievement? It all starts and ends with positive leadership. In addition, I have remained current on all new information and technology associated with education. I have high engagement and my growth over 7 consecutive years with vulnerable students, despite COVID-19 pandemic. It is proof that an individual can thrive despite the circumstances if they are in a psychologically safe environment.
I am passionate about curriculum development and implementation, as I believe it is key to engaging the student. I have experience in monitoring the progress of the students and making improvements in the curriculum to enhance learning. Data drives all of my decision making, through common formative assessments, summative comprehensive assessments, and qualitative anecdotal notes as interpersonal connections are established. I have been able to pull lower students high and high students higher. I am a writing specialist and currently the entire middle school is writing to a strategy that I created. I have been influential with my team of teachers. My colleagues and I, at Dwight Middle School, developed and implemented the first known middle school writing center, led by student peers.
My State of Texas certifications include EC-4 Generalist, 4-8 English Language Arts and Reading and Social Studies, 8-12 English Language Arts and Reading, and K-12 English as a Second Language. I am enrolled in my second masterâs at University of Texas at Permian Basin. I have a 4.0 working in graduate studies in English. Under my academic leadership, to include the complete STAAR Re-design, Dwight Middle School is free and clear of federal and state comprehensive review. We are on the way this year to a âBâ rating!
