Hello! My name is Juli and I am a PhD student studying immunology at the University of California, San Francisco. I`ve been learning, teaching and experimenting with biology for over 10 years. I enjoy talking about science with others, and translating complex scientific topics into easy-to-understand material. I hope to be a teacher or science communicator in the future in order to help more people understand and enjoy the amazing world of biology!

Experience: I majored in Molecular Biology at Wesleyan University. At Wesleyan, I was a university tutor and teaching assistant for introductory biology students. I additionally mentored younger students in my research laboratory, where I used yeast to understand genetics and completed an honors thesis. After college, I worked for four years as a research scientist focusing my studies on the immune system. In my scientist roles, I served as a full-time mentor to both a high school and a master`s level student.

Currently, I am in my fourth year of a PhD at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). At UCSF, I completed high level coursework in molecular biology and immunology. I was a tutor for younger graduate students in a science writing course. I have completed coursework in teaching pedagogy and science communication, where I learned effective methods to translate biology to newer audiences. Additionally, I have worked as a counselor and curriculum developer for ImmunoExplore, a high school summer camp all about the immune system. Finally, I have designed and taught lessons to San Francisco high school biology students through UCSF`s Science and Health Education Partnership.

I aspire to work in the field of science communication after completing my graduate students, whether as a teaching professor, a science writer, or an editor at a scientific journal. I want to use my knowledge and skills to help younger and introductory audiences understand biology.
