Information about Emma
I am a recent graduate of Emory University, where I majored in Anthropology and minored in Classical Civilizations. I am a member of the Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society. My degree is in Cultural Anthropology, but I am also skilled in archaeology and forensic anthropology. My focus is primarily in Mediterranean and MENA cultures.
I am an avid reader and passionate about language. I am conversationally fluent in French and have studied Latin for four years, which has improved my knowledge of English. I am experienced in teaching reading and writing to early elementary school and can provide assistance in preparation for the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT and ACT.
I am passionate about history and intend to go to graduate school for archaeology. I am keenly interested in the Roman Empire, Medieval Europe, and Colonial America.
Availability: I am happy to meet wherever is most comfortable for the student, including over video-chat. My schedule is flexible, so reach out and let me know what works for you!
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I first began tutoring as a junior in high-school. I worked with seventh and eighth grade students to improve their grades in ELA, Social Studies, and Science. I also go-taught after school lessons in sight-singing in preparation for All State Choir auditions for middle and high school students.
I found the experience rewarding and continued to tutor in college. I volunteered with after school programs for elementary school students in small groups of 2-3 students. I primarily focused on increasing skills in reading and writing, but also provided help with homework and test prep in all subject areas. During my time in college, I additionally volunteered with the Americans Choral Directorâs Association Club, where I tutored students in intro-level music theory classes.
I initially base my lesson plans on studentâs coursework, and adjust as necessary according to the individual student. I am experienced in working with students who need accommodations and am open to input from parents and students. Feel free to reach out any time!
