Information about Marissa

I am a dedicated and passionate educator committed to helping students build both confidence and mastery in their learning. With experience teaching high school biology, I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while maintaining high academic expectations. My classroom and tutoring experience have strengthened my ability to support diverse learners, including students who need additional scaffolding, structured guidance, or help rebuilding academic confidence.

I believe every student is capable of success when given the right support. My approach combines clear direct instruction, guided practice, and opportunities for students to explain their thinking so they develop true understanding—not just memorization. I create a supportive, professional learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks.

Families and students can expect consistency, organization, and strong communication. I take pride in being reliable, prepared, and responsive to individual student needs. My goal is not only to improve grades, but to help students become independent, confident learners who feel capable of tackling challenging material on their own.

Experience: I am currently in my second year as a high school Biology teacher, where I design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons focused on deep conceptual understanding and scientific thinking. In my classroom, I emphasize inquiry-based learning, data analysis, modeling, and real-world application of biological concepts such as genetics, evolution, and cellular processes. My experience has strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction and support students with diverse learning needs.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology from Rutgers University, where I built a strong foundation in life sciences and research-based thinking. I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Biology Education from Western Governors University (WGU), further developing my expertise in instructional strategies, assessment, and student-centered learning.

My combined content knowledge and classroom experience allow me to explain complex biological concepts clearly and effectively while helping students build confidence and academic independence.
