Information about Ellen M
I`m retired and find myself missing the act of teaching. My most effective work is in one-on-one sessions with students, though I also find small group settings to be fruitful. My skills in literature and writing were honed early on while working at my parents` local newspaper during my upbringing. I pursued an English major and graduated with honors. Currently, I reside with my husband in Overland Park, Kansas.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I taught secondary level English, Spanish, French, and English as a Second Language from 1975 to 1989 in Atchison, KS. My Kansas teaching certification has lapsed, but I hold a lifetime certification in Missouri. After graduating from KU Law in 1992, I served as a Supervising Attorney for the Douglas County, Kansas, Legal Aid Society, overseeing more than 20 students both in and out of court. Additionally, I instructed the Landlord-Tenant and Municipal Court units of our program. With over 80 hours of KS Bar-certified mediation training, I have extensive experience in mediation. Subsequently, I joined the District Attorney`s office in Douglas County, Kansas, in Lawrence. After a decade as an Assistant District Attorney, I resigned to care for my ill husband and my mother, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Since then, my mother, husband, and all four of my siblings have passed away. Having supported them, I am now seeking part-time work, preferably in tutoring.
