Hello and thank you for reading my bio! I am a certified teacher from Iowa, where I was born and raised. I received my degree in elementary education with Reading and ELL/SEI endorsements from the University of Iowa in December. I spent much of my childhood reading books and playing in the woods near my house in the countryside of southeast Iowa. These experiences cultivated a deep curiosity in the world and an eagerness to consume knowledge. I still love to learn, and believe working in education is the best way to learn something new every day. My hobbies today consist of cooking off-recipe, thrift shopping, and playing outside with my niece and nephews.

Experience: I started at the University of Iowa as a Journalism & International Studies major seeking a minor in Arabic. After my first year of classes, I realized my heart was not as invested as I had expected, and I could find more value and impact as an educator. I wanted to retain some of the global and linguistic interests in my work, which I found in ELL. I studied Arabic for two years in college, working up to the Intermediate level. While I have certainly lost some of my language skills, I can still communicate at a Beginner level and even better with kids! While in college, I had in-the-classroom experiences focused on Math, Reading, and ELL in elementary, middle, and high schools. I student taught for eight weeks in a third grade classroom in Iowa and completed my degree in New Zealand where I spent eight weeks teaching Newcomer ELL students in an Auckland middle school. Since graduating, I have spent time substitute teaching and as an outdoor elementary educator in Iowa City, IA. I have also spent the past three summers at the University of Iowa Wildlife Camps, a STEM-based outdoor summer camp in Iowa. I am now substitute teaching and tutoring in Phoenix, AZ as I complete my master of arts in education through Arizona State University.
