Mariah

I am a rising 3rd year undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. I am also appointed as the next season’s Captain for the University’s D1 Collegiate Dance Team after having served as the team’s Community Outreach Manager for the 23-24 season. My other campus involvements include my participation as an Orientation Leader for incoming students in addition to my involvement in UCSD’s chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Experience: Offering STEM tutoring services both remotely and in-person since 2021, I have provided individually-based support ensuring deeper understanding of general chemistry knowledge for high school students in addition to strengthening mathematics and science foundations for basic elementary and advanced middle school students.
In addition to academic tutoring, I was also a dance teacher throughout high school where I utilized a range of instructional techniques to promote dancer artistry while maintaining and strengthening proper technical foundation. I facilitated classes of different levels, genres, and ages ranging from 4-18.
Mentoring and tutoring several students has sharpened my ability to coach and guide others. As a STEM tutor with 2+ years of experience, I have learned how to productively identify areas of need for individual students and provide targeted support to reinforce knowledge and problem-solving skills. Being a dance instructor has strengthened my foundation as a mentor as I have gained valuable experience teaching diverse groups of dancers and fostering a creative and open space to learn.
