Information about Sharon

Dear Hiring manager,
My name is Sharon and I am a senior pre-medical biology student at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in May 2019. I am extremely interested in a tutor/teaching position. As an undergraduate student, I have been a Teaching Assistant for two and a half years to 3 Professors within the Biology Department at the University of Texas at Austin. My job involved being in charge of two discussion sections each semester, where I was tasked with lecturing to the students and ensuring that they became proficient in the material covered in class. In addition to this, I was tasked with assisting in grading exams as well as weekly graded assignments. Through this job, I have been able to learn how to adapt my teaching style to the several different types of learners that an individual student may be. Because this job required that I lecture to a class of students as well as hold office hours where students could come to me privately for extra help, I have been able gain skills in both teaching to large class sizes as well as teaching in a one-on-one setting.
In addition to this, my experience in various research labs as an undergraduate student has allowed me to learn how the different fields of science are applied in real life research settings. I have used these experiences to show students how material they are learning can be applied in laboratory settings that they may be able to participate in as they pursue higher levels of education. I have found that this use of real-life application in conjunction with concepts they are learning in class has helped students in becoming enthusiastic about learning the material as well as making it easier to understand. Lastly, I have learned to develop strong relationships with students and faculty at all levels, a skill important in any field.
