Information about Shubhi

I’m a former teacher and education professional who loves helping students build confidence in their learning. I taught 7th grade science through Teach For America while earning my Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins, and I’ve spent years tutoring and mentoring students in community programs. Growing up internationally, including time in South Africa, gave me an early appreciation for the power of education to change lives.

Experience: As a former Teach For America corps member, I spent two years teaching 7th grade science while earning my Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins. During that time, I helped my students achieve 60% growth in proficiency, but just as importantly, I learned how much patience, encouragement, and trust matter in helping students succeed. After Teach For America, I continued teaching at a private school before moving into EdTech, where I still work toward creating safer and more equitable experiences for students.

I’ve also had the opportunity to support students outside of the classroom. For four years, I tutored students in low-income communities through the YMCA, which taught me how important it is to meet each student where they are and help them build confidence at their own pace. I’ve always loved learning myself, and that comes through in the way I teach. In high school, I scored 750/800 in SAT Reading and 740/800 in SAT Writing, and I received credit for 10 AP courses, including Biology, Calculus, Statistics, Physics B, Language, World History, Government, U.S. History, Economics, and Psychology.

What matters most to me, though, is how a student feels while learning. I believe every student is capable, and I try to teach from first principles so they truly understand a concept instead of just memorizing it. I lead with empathy, encouragement, and a real desire to help students feel more confident in themselves. For me, tutoring is not just about improving grades—it’s about helping students feel supported and capable.
