Yue Yan

I am a third year, physics major attending University of Michigan-Dearborn. I discovered my fascination in physics after taking a couple of intro physics courses during my first year in college. Taking physics courses influenced me to decide I wanted to involve my future career around physics. I hope to help others by becoming a medical physicist one day. Over the years, I also found my love in teaching. I gained much experience in tutoring my younger siblings, elementary, middle school, and high school students. Even attending university now, I continue to work as a part-time tutor for my school in college math and physics courses. I`ve learned that each individual take in information differently, therefore I`ve picked up on different methods in teaching others. Not everyone is perfect at everything, I understand it can be very frustrating when students are struggling in certain subjects. I have the most confidence tutoring in math and physics so I am most interested in helping others struggling in those two areas. I think the most gratifying feeling is when the students I tutor begin to enjoy what they are learning. Outside of academics, I enjoy the sun and outdoor activities, playing with dogs, and, most importantly, spending time with family and close friends. Currently, my favorite hobbies are taekwondo, hiking, and ice skating.

Availability: I have a flexible schedule this summer (June - September, 2019). I am available from 9:00am - 7:00pm on the following days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Experience: While attending university, I`ve gained two years of experience working at the Math Learning Center (MLC), a free math tutoring service offered by my university. At the MLC, I tutor students in college level math courses such as precalc, calc I, calc II, calc III, differential equations, and linear algebra. Furthermore, I also have one year experience working as a physics Supplemental Instructor. As a physics SI leader, I help students in intro physics mechanics course and physics electricity & magnetism course. I also held exam review sessions for the courses.
