Information about Victoria

Since the destruction left by Hurricane Katrina there has been a need for change in New Orleans’ school system. I have been apart of Kids Rethink – a non-profit youth base organization that works to get the youth voices valued and incorporated in the rebuilding process of New Orleans and it’s schools – since fifth grade and I study at Brandeis University. Because of my work with Rethink I have become one of the prominent advocates for the voiceless youth of New Orleans. In my time with Rethink I have published a collaborated book with fellow Rethinkers at fifteen years-old(Feet to the Fire: The Rethinkers` Guide to Changing Your School), done work around Food Justice and Restorative Justice. My work has brought me to speak at events all over the United States – including places like Harvard University, Oakland and Kentucky – and traveled over seas to study the educational system and culture of Korea. I have stared along side fellow Rethinkers in the HBO documentary, “Weight of The Nation”, highlighting our work in food justice for schools; which lead me to work with the city’s health commissioner to tackle both health and violence in New Orleans. All of this being said I have a passion for teaching and learning. I enjoy the sciences, art and music as well as a multitude of activities. After my studies at Brandeis I plan to teach and come back to New Orleans to share her knowledge with the new youth of New Orleans and in some way continue my activism work.
