Information about Tom

I am available and happy to tutor for the MCAT. Having recently taken the exam and scored a 38R (12 verbal, 13 phys, 13 bio - 98.6-99.0 percentile overall) after a reasonable amount of studying, I feel confident that I can help you toward your goals.

I recently finished applying to medical schools, having received a lot of help from knowledgable and experienced advisors and mentors; so I'm also available to advise you on your application materials if needed.

Getting a high enough score for any school is actually a good deal less intimidating than most students think. It's all a matter of prioritizing the right information, figuring out what you *don't* know (quite possibly the hardest part), investing enough time, and using good study methods. (Indeed, some methods are *much* better than others.)

In a short amount of time, we'll be able to identify the topics and subtopics in which you're weak and develop a plan to tackle them. With continued awareness and flexibility in responding to obstacles that emerge as we progress, we'll address and overcome otherwise frustrating and potentially overwhelming material. Where many students might balk, you'll have the strategic tools and techniques to stay focused. In short, I will not only help you learn the material; I'll help you learn how to learn it.

I used to be a poor studier. I was still a good student because of my wit and hard work; but I didn't become aware of and fully develop my studying capacities until a couple years into college. Since then, I've come a long way. For this reason, my greatest strength is in teaching studying methods, skills, and approaches to handling psychological impediments while studying. And I really love helping people learn.

Please ask for my resume and a list of references, if interested. I would also be happy to have letters of recommendation (from tutoring students, professors, supervisors) sent your way.

I charge based on how much I am actually helping you and your ability to pay. If you're concerned about price, we can probably work something out.
