Information about Andrea

I took my MA in English and American Literature at the University of Kent, exploring Creative Writing, Critical Thinking, Art, and Psychoanalysis. Pursing this broad range of academic subjects was the result of my desire to be more practically and socially engaged a desire that is demonstrated in my current training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at The Guild of Psychotherapists, and working with young people in care. I aim to facilitate a nourishing environment in which learners are encouraged to express themselves.

I have been Managing Editor at Canterbury Christchurch University, for a publication for young people, and Children`s Literature and Events Coordinator at the Idler Academy. Having taught English as a Foreign Language, I have secure knowledge of phonetics and the rules that need to be learned in order to have a firm foundation in reading and writing. I make use of a high standard of literary resources in my lessons, as well as responding and tailoring lessons to the individual’s interests and strengths. I have knowledge of the curriculum and what needs to be achieved, but ensure that this focus does not obscure the overall aim of encouraging the desire to learn. Most recently, I have been a freelance teacher and storyteller in schools and universities, alongside working for various London Councils, tutoring and mentoring looked after children. A notable achievement this year is co-writing a Philosophy course for adult learners in prison, which I will be co-delivering this term..
